Did director Todd Phillips go to the trouble of making Joker: Folie à Deux just to punish fans? As weird as it sounds, some fans believe this to be the case.

If you’ve not heard about how upset cinema goers are about Joker: Folie à Deux then you’re lucky, because most people’s social media feeds are inundated with disgruntled viewers.

You'll see the good, the bad, and the ugly in Joker: Folie à Deux

Although the finale to the sequel has divided Batman fans, it could be argued that they shouldn’t be surprised by what it entails at all.

This is because some people in the fandom predicted Joker 2’s ending years ago.

I guess it’s one thing to think it might happen, and another to see it play out before your disappointed, weary eyes.

Now ire comes via a secondary wave after fans started to posit that the film is deliberately bad to make fun of them for enjoying the first movie.

“So it really is so bad because they were mad at who liked the first movie? This has to be a sick joke?” asked MrMegaPhoenix.

Others suggest that the sequel wasn’t designed to punish fans who liked the first films, but rather those who didn’t.

User Bloodwalker09 explained, “No, they weren’t mad at people who liked the first movie. They were mad at people that did not understand the first movie.”

Even if that’s the case, it’s ultimately a decision that fans don’t believe has paid off.

“The movie's trying to deconstruct a character and create a meta commentary without understanding said character. Which is funny cuz it's the same director,” posted PompousDude.

Audiences have been taken down a road they never wanted to travel down regardless of Phillips’ final vision for the sequel.

As far as kango234 is concerned, “Just because it's meta doesn't mean it's good.”

Not even Lady Gaga can save this film from itself.
