As the creative teams of the DCU sets their sights on the future, the casting of one of the most iconic heroes is going to arise.

Batman has been played by several actors over the years, and James Gunn and his team will want to choose the right person to carry the mantle for the coming years, but fans are already making suggestions and some actors are putting forward their passion to play The Dark Knight.

The DCU Batman has yet to be cast, but many actors could be in the running

In an interview with Wired, Reacher actor Alan Ritchson has commented on wanting to put on the cowl and play Batman.

He expressed a want to play the role, stating, “you wouldn't even have to pay me,” to play Batman in the DCU.

After fans heard this comment via Twitter, they, of course, have some thoughts.

“Bros been begging for the job for years, just give him it already, he’s a perfect fit,” said one fan.

The actor is known for his size, as a stocky and solid presence on camera, which works well for the role of Reacher.

However, some fans aren’t sure we need that in our next Batman.

“I’d pass due to his size unless we’re not interested in authenticity to the source,” comments a Twitter user in the replies.

Another DC fans questions the type of Batman we see next and wonders if this is a good fit - “Robert Pattinson made Bruce Wayne a deeply brooding, obsessive vigilante, without the billionaire gadgets from the Christopher Nolan films. Darker, grittier. What does Ritchson bring to the table?”

Perhaps Ritchson wouldn’t make a great Batman, but this fan has another suggestion, “Would've fit better as Bane, honestly.”

There are some, proving that there’s opinion on all sides, that would love this casting choice, commenting, “Alan Ritchson as Batman would be insane — dude’s built for it.”

Time will tell on who eventually steps into the role, it could be some time before it’s decided.
