It’s always nice to play some classic video games of yesteryear, especially when those games can look extra glorious in wonderful 4K.
While Xbox has been leading the way with backwards compatibility, PlayStation has been playing catch up in recent generations. However, since the introduction of the revised PS Plus subscription service, classic PS1 games have been introduced to subscribers of the Extra and Premium tiers.
Enjoy the Tekken 2 intro below!
Thankfully, the introduction of PS1 classics does not extend to just PS Plus subscribers, because if at any point you had purchased a PS1 or PSP game on the PS3/PSP/PS Vita Store, if those games become available on Sony’s subscription service, you will have access to them at no extra cost. Happy days!

So with each monthly announcement of the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium offerings, gamers keep a keen eye on what classic titles might be announced next for PS1 and PSP . Speaking of which, can we please have classic Resident Evil and Tomb Raider games already?
Another benefit of PS1 games becoming available on PS4 and PS5 is that if you haven't previously purchased those games digitally or subscribe to Sony’s service, some become available to purchase on the PS Store, including the likes of Toy Story 2 and Syphon Filter.
With that in mind, you might be pleased to know that a new batch of PS1 games has just dropped on the PlayStation Store. Those games include Tekken 2, Mr. Driller, Ride Racer 2 and Ride Racer Type-4 for a modest price of £7.99/$9.99 each. It may be worth mentioning for Trophy hunters, that neither of the new batch of games have Trophy support at the time of writing. Unlike the aforementioned Syphon Filter.
It will be interesting to see which classic PS1 and PSP games become available to purchase outright on the PlayStation Store in the near future.
