The Last of Us fans are saying that the show is ‘everything The Walking Dead should’ve been’. However, are they wrong?
“I always said The Walking Dead would have been better on HBO. Even AMC is too limiting,” said Reddit user Mattyworld617, opening the discussion. “The Last of Us has the character depth, pacing, storytelling and real-world applicability lacking in The Walking Dead. That’s all.”

However, it seems that the discussion thread is very split with some agreeing with the author of the post and some disagreeing.
“I'm with you on this one. I was SO pumped for TWD to come out, had read some of the comics, knew it was pretty good and watched the entire first two seasons -- but was only ever left with disappointment at the ultimate lack of depth in their character studies,” explained Peking93.
They continued: “Everyone in TWD felt archetypical and 2-D, whereas TLOU has already surpassed this expectation within minutes of introducing almost any given character…”
“I even find the first season of The Walking Dead hasn’t accomplished what TLOU did in half a season,” added RenRGER.
In my humble opinion, as great as the first five episodes of The Last of Us TV series from HBO have been, we’re only just passed the halfway point of the first season. So there’s a long way to go. Admittedly, The Last of Us couldn't have gotten off to a better start.

However, as some of the Reddit users in the thread have pointed out, I think many are forgetting how great the first two seasons of The Walking Dead were. Long before seasons were stretched out to overstay its welcome.
“Not really a fair comparison. You’re comparing 5 episodes to an entire series,” explained Spideyv91. “The Walking Dead’s first season was extremely well received, not that different from The Last of Us. Probably better to wait and see how The Last of Us ends up.”
“That's nonsense. The first two seasons of The Walking Dead are some of the best television ever made. After that, it took a massive plunge but they were still phenomenal television,” said Cynical_badger.
In related news, we spoke to the voice of Tommy from the video game series, Jeffrey Pierce on the possibility of the character's return in The Last of Us: Part 3 as well as the actor's role in the HBO adaptation.
