HBO's The Last of Us is off to a sensational start with praise for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's portrayal of Joel and Ellie and the reverence that it has for the original game, and we just keep learning more and more about the dedication to detail that's gone into the show.
If you're questioning if the hype is justified, it is a heart-pounding (and heart-wrenching) adaptation of the story that countless gamers cherish, and given what happened to the Halo show, that's no small achievement. Of course, the network spent a lot of cheddar on The Last of Us, more than Game of Thrones according to a report, and the results are incredible. There are many moments in the first episode for fans to point at the telly like Leonardo di Caprio, however, it turns out there's another Easter egg for the game in forthcoming episodes if you're listening closely enough.
Check out this comparison between the show and the game in this scene where Joel and Ellie are waiting for the opportunity to escape the quarantine zone:
Actress and comedian Misty Lee and senior director of sound at PlayStation Studios Phillip Kovats are the voices behind the Clickers in the original game. While things like dinosaurs roars and alien screeches are often a mish-mash of assorted sounds from junkyards, metal on metal, and even lifting up dustbin lids, these enemies' sounds are still nearly completely human, disturbingly enough. Derrick Espino, a sound designer working for PlayStation, gave fans the lowdown on how those screeches were created in a Twitter thread.
And, Lee and Kovats reprise their roles as Clickers in the show, though they're yet to appear. Viewers with a freshly printed prescription from Boots Opticians will have spied a Clicker on the roof of a building in the final few seconds of the first episode, so I imagine we won't be waiting long.
