The behaviour of Ezra Miller, who plays The Flash in the DC Extended Universe, continues to cast doubt over the potential success of the film centering on the superhero as well as their future in the industry. Aggrieved fans have already made their feeling known about Miller, and now, they're calling for actor Grant Gustin to take on the role of the superhero once more to separate Miller from their cherished character.
Over the course of this year, Miller has been arrested following a physical altercation and disorderly conduct in Hawaiʻi, taken into custody and arrested again for second-degree assault when they threw a chair at someone, accused of beginning a relationship with a 12-year-old child and supplying them with LSD, and accused of threatening a young family by brandishing a firearm inside their house and "uncomfortably" touching one of the children. Most recently, they have been charged with felony burglary in Stamford, Vermont, which is also where they are apparently running a large, unlicensed marijuana cultivation operation.
Considering that the Batgirl film has been unexpectedly cancelled owing to a "strategic shift" at Warner Bros., this bizarre behaviour is yet to see any sort of concrete consequences for Miller's current and future status in the DCEU. “DC is something that we think we could make better, and we're focused on it now," explained Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in the company's quarterly earnings call. "We have some great DC films coming up — Black Adam, Shazam!, and The Flash. We're working on all of those. We're very excited about them."
This lukewarm statement hasn't impressed fans who have reacted negatively to Miller's continued controversies, and some reckon they've got the ideal solution to take Miller out of the upcoming film and ensure that the character is done justice following the chaos. Actor Grant Gustin played The Flash in the Arrowverse, in shows including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Vixen. With so much experience playing the superhero, and more importantly, so much goodwill from fans, this might be the quick fix that Warner Bros. sorely needs.
