The Elder Scrolls VI feels incredibly intangible given that it was revealed eight years ago and precisely nothing has surfaced since.
Instead, many fans of the acclaimed Bethesda franchise are directing their neglected hype towards an unofficial new project, Skywind.
Skywind, if you don’t know, is a new fan-made entry in The Elder Scrolls series that essentially seeks to remake The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s engine.
It’s not an offering that should be overlooked due to its unofficial status, as Skywind looks just as brilliant as anything Bethesda might produce.

It’s been in development since 2012 just to give you some idea of the hard work and dedication that has gone into this project, with Skywind finally due to launch sometime this year.
While a precise 2026 release date is yet to be pinned down, the development team behind Skywind has just released a brand new deep dive.
The video features a fresh look at gameplay and offers an insider’s view of the general development process with over 100 volunteer devs contributing to Skywind.
The team confirmed within the update that the creation of 2D and 3D assets is finally almost complete - and that includes everything from textures to character models and beyond.
Skywind’s dialogue recording is progressing nicely too with a big chunk of the project’s script having now been recorded, although there’s still some way to go there.
The Skywind team estimates that 75% of animation work is now complete with 10 of the game’s 13 regions at the stage of near-completion.
That still leaves quite a bit of work to do, so the Skywind team is definitely up against the clock if this remake is still targeting a 2026 release date.
It’s very possible that we could see it pushed into early 2027.
What we do know, however, is that we’re on the final countdown and Skywind is most definitely going to arrive ahead of The Elder Scrolls VI.
The latest video update, ‘The Road Continued’ has built plenty of hype within The Elder Scrolls fanbase.
“Looks f**king mental. Huge, huge kudos to every single person involved,” read one comment on the video.
“The quality of this project is insane in all departments, speechless,” added another.
“It is hard to comprehend the passion, time, skill, and dedication poured into this project. Truly staggering,” said one viewer, while someone else declared, “We don’t need an official remake. This looks genuinely incredible.”
I quite agree. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a ‘fan’ project look so much like an official release which is why, over the years, Skywind has come to be seen as a major project within The Elder Scrolls pipeline.
Let’s hope that the 2026 target is reached, although if Skywind does slip into 2027, it’ll definitely be worth the wait.
