Outside of GTA VI I think it's probably fair to say The Elder Scrolls VI is the most anticipated video game sequel of all time.
Heck, don't tell anyone, but I'm infinitely more excited for the next Elder Scrolls game than I am for GTA VI. Give me swords and spells over guns and cars any day of the week.
The only catch is we don't really know when The Elder Scrolls VI is supposed to land. We've heard rumours and whispers, of course, and we know the game is in development. But we're in for a wait.

Fortunately, a rival has emerged - one that looks like it might actually release first.
The Wayward Realms is a brand-new open-world RPG from many of the developers who worked on the Elder Scrolls back in the day, and they're promising a definitive fantasy experience. In fact, the project is being headed up by Ted Peterson and Julian Lefay, the original creators of the franchise.
You can expect an “ever-changing setting with procedurally generated cities, dungeons, towns, and points of interest scattered between, allowing for adventures and exploration of epic proportions not seen in any other game.”
If that sounds like a bit of alright to you, you can follow along with the game's progress on Kickstarter.

The Wayward Realms has obliterated its original funding goal, which suggests to me there's rather a large appetite for what this game is offering.
The current plan is to release an early access build of the game to select backers, though the team acknowledges it might not be possible to do this by the end of the year.
For now, we'll have to sit back and wait, but I would strongly suspect that we'll be seeing The Wayward Realms before The Elder Scrolls VI makes an appearance.
