It’s difficult to wait so long for something you love. That’s the sentiment expressed by many fans of The Elder Scrolls when they realise that they will be waiting for the sixth installment until possibly 2028.

If that is the target release year for The Elder Scrolls VI it will mean that around 17 years would have passed since Skyrim and fans are frustrated.

Bethesda's Starfield will be getting an official DLC expansion later this year

When someone posted this information on Reddit, it caused an interesting discussion between those who see the wait as too long and those who appreciate the time being spent on the new game.

User Dirtpileofdirt pointed out that, “17 years is longer than the amount of time between Star Wars Episode 6 and Star Wars Episode 1. I hope Bethesda realizes this game needs to be a huge comeback for them.”

This was compounded by another user, Jaceofspades6 who explained, “Skyrim right now is older than Morrowind was when Skyrim came out. If TESIV doesn’t release before 2028 Skyrim will age out Daggerfall.”

When you put it like that, it makes the passage of time seem so long. However, Bethesda are known for its longer development times and they have several franchises to focus on.

This is highlighted by Redditor, Vidistis, who explains, “They have stuck to their 3-4 years between game releases pretty well. That's three games after Starfield, which ends up being around 12 years. Add another 3-4 (possibly 5 for QA) for TESVI and that's about a 15-17 year wait.”

With the extended development time that modern hardware requires it’s no surprise that the wait will be considerably longer than it once was, and as another user exclaims, “At least TES is next. It’s Fallout’s turn to wait now.”

Despite the size of Bethesda and the large workforce, the team is split over several IPs meaning the wait, while frustrating, is also understandable. Anyway, back to Skyrim we go.
