Star Wars: Rebel Assault gets stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake

Back to a galaxy far, far away

Unreal Engine 5 remakes keep popping up every few days and it’s hard to keep track of them all, to be honest.

However, anything linked to Star Wars, especially a classic game like Star Wars: Rebel Assault, will instantly be memorable.

Star Wars Outlaws will make its way to consoles and PC later this year from Ubisoft

The retro game originally came out in 1993 for PC and it was an instant success as it put players behind the control stick of some of Star Wars’ most iconic ships.

Now someone behind the YouTube channel, UnrealWars, is remaking the game completely in Unreal Engine 5, and it looks lovely.

From what we can see, there’s a trailer for the game and the work they’ve done to convert the original to brilliant.

It appears that all of the graphics and the sound have been fully overhauled and the creator is including classic characters from the franchise, along with recognisable locations, all with a modern twist.

The original game was an on-rails shooter and the concept has been kept here. It’s a relatively short and simple game, never overly taxing, so should this see the light of day, and we think it will, you can expect to finish it swiftly.

As the description reads, “Join Rookie One as you pilot iconic starfighters, engage in intense dogfights, and embark on daring missions against the Empire.”

This makes us want to see more classic Star Wars games revamped for modern audiences and although we’ll likely get a few down the road, games such as this will be overlooked.

Whenever this topic of conversation comes up, I advocate for Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire getting a remake. It was a banger for the N64 and contained so many wonderful moments from the original trilogy.

You can keep an eye on the progress of this project via YouTube and cross your fingers that Disney don’t catch wind of it.
