A Star Wars game that was feared to be cancelled, or at the very least getting reworked, isn’t dead yet.

Happy Star Wars Day everyone. Today we’re expecting some exciting announcements and updates on the galaxy far, far away, including some of the video games we know are currently in the works.

Star Wars: Jedi 3 will be a big one if it’s unveiled but the recent marketing makes the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake also a possibility.

The game we’re talking about right now though is one you’ve probably forgotten, and you’d be forgiven for doing so as it’s gone years without an official update.

Star Wars Eclipse Is Safe, It’s Alright

Star Wars Eclipse is an action-adventure RPG that was announced during The Game Awards back in 2021.

No gameplay was shown and the trailer itself was very cryptic, not giving too much away on what the game will actually be about.

It’s said the game will rely heavily on branching paths created through the player’s choices, in a story set during the High Republic era.

Based on that limited information the game sounds decent. In fact it almost sounds like it’s trying to be the Star Wars-equivalent to Baldur’s Gate 3 with a varied cast of characters and actual consequences for what you choose to do with them.

Five years after its initial reveal nothing has been said about the game since but to probably everyone’s surprise it’s not cancelled.

In fact three weeks ago Quantic Dream, the studio developing the game, put out a job advert for an Environment Artist, namedropping Star Wars: Eclipse in the post.

The listing is for a position in Paris and while it doesn’t give any specific details on the game away it at least proves it’s still in the works. How far along into development it is remains a mystery though.

We’re not going to get the answers today unfortunately but perhaps we’ll see the game return for this year’s Game Awards, hopefully with a more promising update.

When Is Star Wars: Eclipse Set To Release?

At the time of writing Star Wars: Eclipse doesn’t have a release date. Not long after its initial reveal it was claimed by leakers that the game’s launch had been pushed back to 2027, and if that’s the case we should be due another look at the game later this year.

The more likely scenario though is the game’s now due to launch sometime in 2028 or 2029, though that depends on the scale of the project.

One theory on why the game has taken so long is that it’s changed its story or genre to reflect current video game and Star Wars trends.

As we said before Star Wars: Eclipse is set amidst the High Republic but so was the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte. Perhaps that show\s failure prompted an alteration to the game’s plot or characters?
