The original Star Wars Battlefront games are finally back on modern consoles, complete with new content and online options. Dreams do come true.

Announced during today's Nintendo Direct, Star Wars Battlefront Collection will give players access to ports of the original Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II. While the collection was announced during the Direct, it appears it's also set to be released on Xbox and PlayStation.

Star Wars Battlefront Collection will feature a number of new maps and characters, as well as 64-player online multiplayer and a suite of all-new options. Certainly, this is a lovely surprise for fans of the original Battlefront games, and much more than we'd dared have hope for. We'll be able to get our hands on it from 14 March, so not very long to wait at all.

While both of the original Battlefront games are beloved, Battlefront II has an especially special place in the hearts of gamers everywhere. Many consider the second game to be a genuine masterpiece, and a perfect multiplayer game.

“The story mode is the best. The journal of the 501st is the best thing Star Wars has ever produced outside of the films,” wrote on Reddit user. Meawhile, ju2000an simply labelled the game, “one of the greatest games of all time.”

Younger gamers might be more familiar with EA’s 2017 reboot of the series, though it's widely agreed these entries - while fun on their own terms - never quite hit the same heights.

XDshimigamiSAMA wrote: “Still a better game than EA’s Battlefront 2, can’t even do split screen instant action.”

Here's hoping the OG Battlefront games can find a whole new audience. What a treat it would be to see a new generation absolutely smashing through marathon Battlefront II sessions in the year of our lord 2024.
