Spider-Man, as a character, has come a long way since the early days of PlayStation. The Marvel superhero appeared on the original PlayStation in a game made by Activision and one moment from the game has haunted players ever since.
The moment in mind is the appearance of ‘Monster Ock’ a mutated version of Doctor Octopus who appears as the game’s final boss and scares the life out of players. The topic recently came up on Reddit and had many reminiscing over the fear we all had for Monster Ock.

The original post starts out with “Monster Ock scared me playing Spider-Man and I’d love for him to return in maybe Spider-Man 3 but I’m not holding my breath.” Trying to give Insomniac some ideas here though it is unlikely such a niche enemy would make an appearance as part of the new series. That doesn’t stop others from sharing their thoughts.

“That final chase sequence still haunts my mind…” replies one user, while another user comments in agreement saying “Scared the s**t out of me playing that.” To be fair, even now, the jagged PlayStation graphics make Ock look more of a monster than ever as it left a little for your imagination to make it worse.
One Redditor points out just how dangerous Monster Ock is with “You know when a boss is OP when the game only lets you run from it” as the sequence has you running for your life. One comment, quite far down in the replies, manages to hit the nail on the head by saying “Carnagized villains are so cool.” They have a point. Even in the comics, whenever we see a new version of Carnage being hosted by a different character it’s sure-fire nightmare fuel and the designs are often top tier.
