Skyrim finally lets you pilot your own ship across the seas

Explore Skyrim in a whole new way

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim already has hours and hours of content to sink your teeth into. However, this free download will inspire you to take some time out and take to the open seas.

There is no denying that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has everything from political intrigue to talking dogs, to murderous doors and the occasional dragon.

Check out the official trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim below!

However, the one thing that it does not have is ships that allow the player to hop on and navigate their way around the lands of Skyrim.

Now that is about to chance thanks to two mods that can be played separately or together and will see you live out your pirate dreams on the open seas.

Functional Ships and Animated Ships by Enneal and Vicn respectively over on Nexus Mods adds both point-to-point ship travel and the chance to see NPCs sail their vessels through ports, beaches and seas.

They are available to download for free for PC users who own the Special edition of Skyrim (they will not work on Legacy/Original versions).

Functional Ships will feature six new ships and some will even allow you to check out their interior.

Not only that but you will be able to partake in point-to-point travel with the ships reflecting quest progress and world events.

With real-time “ish” travel and plenty of ships to explore and navigate, this mod adds a whole new element to Skyrim.

Additionally, the Animated Ships mod will allow your game to be filled with NPCs living out their days on the sea.

You will see ships sail through ports, beaches and oceans and you can even ride on them.

These mods will not add epic ship combat but they are still new and unique ways to experience the hit Bethesda RPG at no cost.
