The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a game filled with fantastical and wondrous sights. There are ancient ruins and wizard colleges filled with deadly secrets. Werewolves and vampires and dragons (oh my) roam the wilds. Giants quietly herd their mammoth across the vast, snowy plains.
And yet, in this world of magic and monsters, there are apparently some players who think the very notion of homosexuality is a bridge too far.
To be very clear, Skyrim is hardly the most diverse game out there. But in spite of this, there are some pathetic pissbabies out there who are desperate to mod out what few traces of queerness do exist.
As first spotted by TheGamer, a small group of modders - presumably perpetually furious at their own unremarkable lives - decided to remove the ability for players to marry NPCs of the same sex. A second mod also made sure to wipe any journal entries that even alluded to gay relationships from the game, just to be on the safe side.
While Nexus Mods eventually removed the offending content from its site, it didn't half drag its feet in doing so. For a short while, it looked as if the website wasn't actually going to take any action at all. That's when another modder decided to take matters into their own hands, and make everyone in Skyrim as gay as the day is long.
Only Same Sex Marriage from Crithion does exactly what it says on the tin. Even better, in the period that it was up alongside the homophobic mods, it effortlessly overtook them in terms of popularity.
Unfortunately, it looks like Only Same Sex Marriage has also now been pulled from Nexus Mods, presumably as it's tangled up in the drama. That seems like a real mistake to me, to be honest. This is very much not a case of two sides with a valid argument, but of one side attempting to peddle hatred and division.
