Skyrim players can now play a brand new quest inspired by the original Morrowind game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim players can enjoy a whole host of new content thanks to the power of mods, where new quests and expansions have overtaken the quality of the vanilla game.

Now over two decades after the release of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, nostalgia is at an all-time high, and one fan has taken it upon themselves to create a mod inspired by the original game.

Titled Through Fire And War, the new mod for Skyrim is “a Morrowind inspired quest” in which the player gets high with cats and goes to the moon.

“They were born on a certain day, under a certain sign, to uncertain parents. But that was over 200 years ago and nobody knows what became of the Nerevarine after they left for Akavir,” reads the description for the mod.

“Discover the fate of the Nerevarine! Smoke Skooma! Talk to cats! Meet the Tribunal! Travel to the Undercity of Velothid! Defeat Dagoth Ur!”

Skyrim: Through Fire And War Is A Fitting Tribute To The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Nerevarine obviously refers to the player character from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Canonically, they were seemingly a male Dunmer, but the mod is constructed in such a way that certain details are obfuscated in order to fit within your own headcanon.

In order to get Through Fire And War to work, you’ll need to install a few other mods prior to this one. You’ll need Lorekeeper - A Quest Mod Framework and HDT-SMP to get it working.

Altogether, the mod is a great addition for those who have played The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and want to find some new quests to play in Skyrim which pay respects to that game.

However, there are many other new free quest mods for you to check out in Skyrim, such as the spiritual journey What Remains and the Dovahkiin and The Apprentice of Thuum high-level difficulty quest.

Meanwhile, those who have been after a similar but new type of experience in the same vein as The Elder Scrolls may want to keep their eye on The Lantern of the Laughless Saint, an open-world “scrollslike” due to release in 2026.
