The fact that after 13 years, players are still making discoveries in Skyrim is a testament to how awesome this fantasy RPG from Bethesda is.

Originally released in 2011, I doubt that even Bethesda could have predicted how much of a success its next entry in the beloved Elder Scrolls series would prove to be. Alas, to this day, players can not get enough of Skyrim, which is a big reason why it’s been ported to every console generation since its launch on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

What’s more, thanks to the never-ending talents of modders, Skyrim is arguably more vibrant today than it was in 2011. Yet, what keeps Skyrim alive more than anything else (other than being a really good game) is the stories shared by its community.

“It’s been 13 years and I honestly still don’t know what this symbol even is,” said a puzzled Babo on Reddit. Thankfully, the knowledgeable members of the thread were eager to explain the juicy details.

“There was a similar discussion two weeks ago and most users agreed that it is supposed to be a dragon. The symbol is also on the Dragonstone,” explained Irlaxa with Babo replying “Some people are saying it’s a carving of Alduin.”

The theory of it being the legendary dragon, Alduin in stone carving would certainly make sense as he’s the main antagonist of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In terms of dragons that roam Tamriel, Alduin would make the most sense.

Other members of the thread speculated that it could even be the Dragonborn helmet, a piece of armour seen in the vast majority of marketing material for Skyrim, which arguably makes just as much sense as the Alduin theory. Perhaps it was Alduin wearing the Dragonborn helmet in what was the Tamriel equivalent of a selfie (I’m joking, of course).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also included in Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost for subscribers.
