Talk about something happening in the Silent Hill series has just been getting louder and louder lately, hasn’t it? Admittedly, things weren’t looking too good when Konami let the series’ website domain expire, which by the way, they’ve still not bought back from the person who grabbed it - it still leads to a screenshot of art director Masahiro Ito’s famous deleted tweet, which reads: “I wish I hadn’t designed fxxkin Pyramid Head.”
Despite that, being ever optimistic (or perhaps, delusional), fans hadn’t given up on the idea that new stuff is in the works. Earlier this week, a well-known industry insider shared some screenshots from a supposed new title, and got swiftly hit with a copyright strike, basically all but officially confirming their legitimacy. Now, VGC reports that according to their own sources, as well as a couple of other leakers, a full remake of Silent Hill 2 is in the works - but there’s an unfortunate twist.
We've not had a new Silent Hill game for years now - take a look at the concept movie for the cancelled title, Silent Hills.
The report claims that the remake will include “reworked AI, animations, puzzles and several new endings”, and that it could be a timed exclusive release on PlayStation consoles, citing insiders NateTheHate2 and Jeff Grubb. Grubb tweeted: “Not all of my sources are primary, but everything is mostly lining up. To me, the biggest indicator is the stuff I've seen lines up with Konami doing a big reveal at E3 last year before it pulled out.”
So, a remake of a fan-favourite 2001 release, what’s not to love? Well, the problem comes with the studio supposedly working on it. Bloober Team, the devs behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, are rumoured to be the ones at the helm, which has been going down very poorly online thanks to their questionable reputation in the games industry.

“I try to be as open-minded as possible but I genuinely cannot express deeply enough how against a Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team I am,” tweeted @JbootyfuI. “‘A Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team’ is quite possibly the worst sentence I've read in a while,” wrote @WreckinRod.
Apparently though, this isn’t the only Silent Hill project in the works, so hopefully, even if the remake goes as poorly as some are imagining, there’ll be a different game coming out to help ease the pain. But please, don’t mess up Silent Hill 2 too bad, okay? Okay.
