Resident Evil's Next Remake Further Away Than We'd Hoped

We could be waiting a while

Capcom’s next Resident Evil remake could be further away than we had hoped, but that might not be a bad thing.

Ever since 2002, Capcom has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to remakes in the beloved survival horror series, Resident Evil. In my opinion, 2002’s Resident Evil on the Nintendo GameCube is the best remake of all time, and that’s a hill I will die on.

That being said, if there were a Mount Rushmore of Resident Evil remakes, no doubt 2019’s Resident Evil 2 and 2023’s Resident Evil 4 would stake a rightful claim.

However, that leaves one more space on the Mount Rushmore of Resident Evil remakes, and if rumours are true, Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero may fight it out for the final spot.

There have been plenty of rumblings that Capcom is developing remakes of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, a game considered to be the last true survival horror game in the series.

Rumblings have also been making the rounds that Resident Evil Zero is getting a remake, a game that was also released in 2002, but many feel that it never quite lived up to the standards set by the series.

As much as it excites me that there could be multiple Resident Evil remakes in the works, it’s always important to take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

With that in mind, video game industry insider AestheticGamer, aka Dusk Golem, claims that Capcom intended that both Resident Evil Requiem and the Resident Evil Zero remake should have been released by now.

When responding to a follower on Twitter regarding the release of the rumoured Resident Evil Zero remake, they said, “Originally, the Zero remake and Resident Evil Requiem were meant to be out by now.

“But both received internal delays. Zero received a form of reboot and changed hands with those working on it late last year.”

Speculation of the remake swapping development hands may be a cause of concern, but AestheticGamer helped put those concerns at ease by adding, “Keep in mind that various scopes of reboots are common in this series, not indicative of final game quality.

“For example, RE2 and RE4 received mid-development reboots, and RE4 even traded hands on who was working on it, as an example. Just part of how these games are made sometimes.”

Neither the Resident Evil Code: Veronica nor Resident Evil Zero remakes have been officially confirmed by Capcom.

As for Resident Evil Requiem, that will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
