It looks like we’re getting another Resident Evil remaster, this time for an under-appreciated entry from 2009.
Resident Evil is known for being one of the best survival horror series out there, giving us absolute bangers ever since the first game was released by Capcom in 1996. However, following the huge success of Resident Evil 4 in 2005 on the Nintendo GameCube, this beloved survival horror series took a new direction for better or worse.

While the original Resident Evil 4 had its fair share of horror and tension (the Regeneradores being a prime example), it was also very action-oriented. Don’t get me wrong, I love RE4 but it’s no survival horror game, in my opinion.

Following on from the success of Resident Evil 4, 2009’s Resident Evil 5 toned down the horror more than its predecessor and ramped up the action. However, this time, it brought in co-op multiplayer with one player controlling series veteran Chris Redfield who is accompanied by the newbie, Sheva Alomar.
Despite being devoid of any real horror, I still loved Resident Evil 5 for what it was, and that’s an over-the-top action game. It was a blast when playing co-op with a friend but in my opinion, it also has the best survival Mercenaries mode in the entire series.
Over the years, Resident Evil 5 would get several re-releases but rather than being proper remasters, they were pretty much straight-up ports bundled with all previously released DLC, including the fantastic story content ‘Lost in Nightmares’.
There have been rumours claiming that Resident Evil 5 is getting a remake and that may eventually prove to be true, but as brought to our attention by Twitter user Wario64, according to an ESRB rating, this under-appreciated gem is getting another release.

It’s highly unlikely that this is related to a Resident Evil 5 remake and there’s a good chance that it could be yet another simple port. That being said, fans of the series will be hoping that RE5 will be getting a remaster with improved visuals and performance on current-gen consoles.
The ESRB rating only mentions Xbox Series consoles but it’s very unlikely to be a green brand exclusive, so I expect that it will simultaneously release on PlayStation 5 also.
We’ll keep you posted when Capcom makes an official announcement.
