Resident Evil 9 update is exactly what we needed to hear

It could be happening!

This Resident Evil 9 update is exactly what we wanted to hear with preparations for a full reveal seemingly shifting into full gear.

In July 2024, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 9 (currently not its official name) was in development. However, other than that, no further details were revealed.

All we’ve had to rely on are rumours with some suggestion that Leon S. Kennedy will be its main protagonist with the possibility of Jill Valentine getting in on the action too. If true, that would be the first time the duo have both been playable characters in a video game.

Yet, despite being announced nearly a year ago (yes, it’s been that long), we still don't have a confirmed release date or gameplay trailer for the next Resident Evil game, but that could be about to change.

Rumours have been making the rounds that Resident Evil 9 could be fully revealed during Summer Game Fest this weekend.

Previously, Capcom has announced its two main entries, Resident Evil Village (2021) and the Resident Evil 4 remake (2023) during digital PlayStation Showcases.

So if Capcom was to reveal Resident Evil 9 during Summer Game Fest, it would be a surprise change of recent habits but it’s still not impossible. Either way, fans are excited for its big reveal, whenever that time might come.

When a Twitter user asked leaker of industry information AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem whether the next game to be released will be a new title or a remake, they replied:

Resident Evil 9 is definitely what's up next I can say at this point, and it is a new game. Zero remake and Code: Veronica remake are in the pipeline, but they're not what's up next.”

So, the question remains, will Resident Evil 9 be revealed at Summer Game Fest this weekend? Only time will tell.

As always, whether it's Resident Evil 9 or the rumoured Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code: Veronica remakes, we’ll update you once the information drops.

That being said, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
