Red Dead Redemption 2 wrapped up the series in a very convenient way, as we already knew what would become of John Marston later down the line, but left enough characters hanging about for spin-offs/sequels.

Now it’s unknown what Rockstar Games has planned for the series going forward, and fans have been pretty vocal on whether they think Red Dead Redemption 3 is the best next move or a mistake waiting to happen.

What would it even be about? And could it live up to Red Dead Redemption 2’s narrative perfection?

Fans were asked in a Reddit thread by wweonlee whether they’d like to see Red Dead Redemption 3, or Red Dead Revolver 2, and the answers were pretty varied.

One fan said “My preference would be a new entry into the Red Dead franchise that focuses on a new central theme entirely. I wouldn't want the story to focus on the concept of redemption forever. What about something like Red Dead Revolution? Rebellion? Retribution?”

“Definitely RDR3” added another, “I personally think Revolver should be re-released and modernized before it gets a second game. That's just me though.”

Some would apparently love another entry into the Red Dead Revolver series, saying “Red Dead Revolver 2. Go back to the real wild west era, don't have a protagonist that dies, I like getting revenge more than getting redemption.”

If I could give my own take I’d personally love another Red Dead Revolver game, as it feels like there’s untapped potential there with how far hardware has come since the original game.

That said an entirely new spin-off would be just as good, but as far as Red Dead Redemption 3 goes I don’t think there’s any more story to tell there, nor would it be satisfying to hear more tales from those characters.

Who knows though, I’d wager even Rockstar Games itself doesn’t know what’s next for the series right now so we’ll just have to wait and see.
