The PS6 console designer seemingly confirmed via a patent in a recent PlayStation update.
Rumours of the PS6 have been running rampant of late. The most recent of which suggested that the next-gen console could arrive after 2027. Documents made public by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) were in response to Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
According to an article from gizchina.com, PS5 designer Mark Cerny could be hard at work developing the PlayStation 6. It is believed that a recent patent that outlines technology for accelerating ray tracing is for the PS6.

Cerny is Sony’s leading man when it comes to developing PlayStation hardware, after leading the way for the likes of the PS4, PS5 and the PS Vita. So it should come as no surprise that Cerny is also in charge of development for the PS6.
A rumour shared by the Twitter account PS6Countdown, claims that Mark Cerny is heavily focused on the PlayStation brand, in particular, the PS6. It is also rumoured that details will be shared in the years ahead with the next-gen console launching sometime between 2027/2028.

Of course, we all know that the PlayStation 6 is coming, however, Sony might save its official reveal for at least a few more years. It’s highly likely that a PS5 Pro or Slim might arrive before the new-gen console. After all, every PlayStation console generation has seen a revised version.
That being said, other rumours claim that The Last of Us: Part 3 is in development for the new-gen console. So could Naughty Dog’s next big hit be a PS6 launch title? Only time will tell.
As with all rumours and speculation, we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. Naturally, we’ll keep you posted as and when we hear any further developments of the latest PlayStation 6 rumours. As they say, watch this space.
