Pokémon fans rejoice, we're finally going back to Johto for a new adventure

Take a look at this Johtograph

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are, for my money, the best games in the series. Before that? Pokémon Gold and Silver, obviously.

While I'm sure most of us thought the Nintendo DS remakes couldn't possibly get any better, it turns out there was a little more gas left in the tank to turn them into the ultimate Pokémon experience.

At least, that's the entire philosophy behind Pokémon MythicSilver, an impressive new fan project that aims to give the fans what they've been begging for: a return trip to Johto for a brand-new adventure.

The project's creator, SauceyaTTa, explains: “Pokémon MythicSilver is an enormous overhaul to the Johto region, including a completely new story.”

You can expect “new maps, new sprites, new music (taken from games like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Platinum), new trainers, new-gen Pokémon, and new battle modifiers.”

It's an absolutely massive undertaking, and fans are already massively in love with what's already been made playable.

“This looks amazing, can't wait to try it out!” posted Redditor Mastersheep8.

"Can't imagine how much energy you took to make such a beautiful ROM-hack in almost a year, also thanks for being so creative," added one YouTube commenter. "Definitely looking forward to playing it someday."

Pokémon MythicSilver is currently in beta, though the story is “complete”. It's also “about as long as a normal game”, so you could dive in over Christmas and still have a substantial experience.

“No f**king way, am I dreaming??” asked Redo-Master on Reddit.

Over “600+ hours” have been dedicated to crafting this new adventure, so be sure to give SauceyaTTa their flowers and check it out as soon as you can.

We're clearly never getting a Johto game on Nintendo Switch, so you might as well dive into this. And never forget, kids: Gen 2 is peak Pokémon. And it always will be.
