With Pokémon being one of the cornerstones of entertainment in Japan, it is no wonder that a recent collaboration has got fans losing their minds.

Combining Pokémon with manga was always going to be a safe bet and that is exactly what is set to happen with an upcoming Shōnen Jump collaboration in Japan.

For those unfamiliar, the Weekly Shōnen Jump is a magazine that has been incredibly popular in Japan since its first issue was released back in 1968.

Featuring all sorts of manga, this is a way for manga artists (known as mangakas) to showcase their works and as a result, many often go on to create their very own manga series or even anime adaptations.

Now in an exciting collaboration, Pokémon and Shōnen Jump have come together to run a ‘Summer Mega Campaign’ across two issues which aims to showcase some beloved manga/anime characters and accompanying Pokémon favourites.

The collaboration can already be seen over on r/WeeklyShonenJump and some examples include Pikachu and One Piece’s Luffy as drawn by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.

They are joined by Totodile drawn by Blue Box creator Kouji Miura and Blaziken by Me & Roboco creator Shuhei Miyazaki.

They are adorable to say the least and fans were quick to share their thoughts about the upcoming collaboration, especially as the Shōnen Jump will include an extra seven stickers.

“Oh, I get it. They are using 10 Pokémon to showcase the nine generations and then probably one from their new game or a popular mon,” one user shared.

That would explain why Chinatsu is with Totodile and Roboco has Blaziken at least.

If we base it off the placement that usually happens, I'm willing to bet Sakamoto Days will get a Gen 4 mon, Kagurabachi Gen 5, Ichi the Witch Gen 6 (fairy type), Akane Gen 7, and then whatever the final three will be.”

Another user was surprised by this surprise team-up.

“I wasn’t expecting this collaboration, I’m not complaining either, I kind of want to see more,” they wrote.

This exciting issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump will be released next week.
