Acquisition is the hot word of the year, it seems. Most notably, Activision Blizzard and Bungie were snapped up in recent months by Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment, respectively, in multi-billion dollar deals.

PlayStation has been playing the acquisition game for years, steadily building up its enviable roster of console icons like Thanos collecting Infinity Stones - including Guerrilla Games’ Aloy, Insomniac Games’ Ratchet, Santa Monica Studios’ brooding Kratos and Team Asobi’s adorable little robot Astro. Used across PlayStation’s marketing, these characters instantly signal which console you’re dealing with. Well, a new character seems to have made its way into this prestigious line up, hinting towards PlayStation’s latest acquisition.

Speaking of PlayStation, take a look at these incredible custom PlayStation 5's.

As spotted by Twitter user JoeMiller101, PlayStation’s latest banner features an odd one out - a character who, unlike the others, does not belong to a PlayStation first party studio. Replacing PixelOpus’ Concrete Genie is Sam Porter Bridges from Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding.

PlayStation quietly changed the banner and in fact, rumours previously leaned more towards Hideo Kojima’s next game being an Xbox exclusive, although of course until anything is confirmed, such rumours have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Death Stranding does have strong ties to PlayStation. It was originally a console-exclusive and was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but given that all the other games featured in the banner are first parties, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to assume that Kojima Productions may soon be joining those ranks. Fans have long assumed, or at least hoped for an acquisition.

Just a few weeks ago, Kojima teased the studios’ relocation after five years. Let’s be honest, there’s an endless list of reasons that could explain that move but maybe the tweet was teasing a potential PlayStation backed expansion for Kojima Productions. It’s your move PlayStation.
