PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that multiple PS5 games are being cancelled all the time, as revealed during an interview.
With all the big AAA big hitters that arrive each and every year such as God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West or Gran Turismo 7, there would be many projects that never fulfilled production, never to see a retail shelf.
As reported by GameSpot, in an interview with The Guardian, Yoshida admitted that Sony cancels “many games.” So it should come as no surprise that unheard-of cancelled projects are part and parcel of the industry.
“PlayStation embraces new ideas, and many of them fail. We do a prototype, we evaluate, we decide whether to spend more time and resources, or we just stop. We cancelled so many games,” Yoshida said. “I usually try to convince the developer that I’m trying to save them from getting stuck with this project.”

Despite many projects being cancelled that we never knew even existed, Yoshida stated that it’s never an easy thing to tell “people who have very strong ideas” that their concepts will never come to fruition.
Unfortunately, Shuhei Yoshida didn't reveal what those cancelled projects may have been, so we can only speculate at this time. In recent years, some cancelled projects that we know of include Silent Hills from Kojima Productions, as well as reports of Sony cancelling a Days Gone sequel.
There have also been reports of an Uncharted spin-off being in the works, not to be developed by Naughty Dog, meaning that too could end up being another cancelled project never to see the light of day.
In truth, it’s probably best that we don’t know about cancelled projects that we could have been playing today. Can you imagine all the heartache that would have been spared if we never knew about Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills? Konami, we shall never forgive you for that one.
