Microsoft is shutting down a popular Xbox feature which has left fans feeling very baffled.

Introduced in 2011, the Xbox Ambassadors Program is a fan-driven community supported by Microsoft that consists of volunteers who are not only proud to represent the green brand but also will help their fellow gamers with general support.

“We love the Xbox community, and if you’re here, you probably do too. Xbox Ambassadors represent what a healthy gaming community is all about: inclusivity, safety, and fun,” reads the official role of an ambassador.

“Xbox Ambassadors make an impact by participating in meaningful activities like making friends on Xbox Live and messaging other gamers “GG,” creating welcoming environments everyone can enjoy.”

While Xbox Ambassadors are not employed by Microsoft, members would be rewarded with a free avatar for their profile and would be entered in sweepstakes to win exclusive prizes and of course, it was a feel-good role for many.

Sadly, however, after 13 years, the Xbox Ambassador Program is coming to an end. “After 13 years of keeping the Xbox community supported, safe, and fun for everyone, we've announced the final season of the Xbox Ambassadors Program,” says a message on the official website which leads you to a statement announcing the end of the program.

However, now that the service is coming to an end, baffled gamers on Reddit are discussing that the Xbox Ambassadors Program never really served its purpose.

“I agree with some of the other comments - it’s not very clear on what the program was about. Sounds like volunteer work troubleshooting Xbox user problems,” said Leather_Product2080.

“Now what Microsoft should do is train their support employees on how to help people. Relying on volunteers who couldn't do anything made no sense,” suggests UpstairsNo9249.

“I used to do quests in the Xbox Ambassador Program for the first 18 months. In recent months, I forgot about it,” replied smackythefrog.

“Almost all of them were snarky and unhelpful, anyway. A few had genuine input and would acknowledge they couldn’t help. Most just hit you with the “lol get gud?” claimed UncleMug.

The Xbox Ambassadors Program will end on 15 October 2024.
