Xbox New Free Game So Popular It Broke Microsoft's Store

I still can't quite believe it's here

Xbox Game Pass added two new titles yesterday, and one is a day-one launch that may just be a major GOTY contender.

Listen, it’s early days, but it’s already difficult to ignore the hype surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel is finally here after years of fans assuming it might never come to light.

Review code wasn’t distributed for the title ahead of launch, so there’s no official critical consensus out there yet.

I’ll be honest though, I haven’t spoken to anyone who isn’t having a complete and utter blast.

Hollow Knight: Silksong seems to have ticked all of the right boxes, already having achieved some major feats.

Correct at the time of writing, Hollow Knight: Silksong boasts an all-time player peak of 535,213 on Steam; that’s according to SteamDB.

For context, the all-time peak for Hollow Knight sits at 72,916 - again, correct at the time of writing - and that was set two days ago.

As Hollow Knight: Silksong didn’t open itself up to pre-orders, it crashed practically every store going yesterday when it did finally become available.

Steam, the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store all temporarily went down as user demand exceeded what the servers were capable of.

It didn’t take too long though before everything was back up and running, allowing us all to actually dive into Silksong.

As I briefly mentioned earlier, if you’re an Xbox user, you can actually enjoy Hollow Knight: Silksong as a day one launch on Xbox Game Pass.

But if you aren’t a subscriber, Silksong will only set you back £16.74 / $19.99 which I don’t think is bad at all for what seems like an all-timer.

It isn’t the only title to have landed on Game Pass yesterday.

It was joined by Cataclismo, PC only, which I fear is going to be heavily overlooked.

Developed by Digital Sun, the title sees players design and build fortresses as they stand off against “hordes of horrors” in real-time strategic combat.

Both that and Silksong are available to enjoy on Game Pass right now.
