A new piece of Xbox hardware has been announced with a very cheeky name that seemingly pokes fun at PlayStation.

For as long as video game consoles have been around, gamers have argued which controller is the best. It’s an argument that will likely never die down anytime soon and conversations are as heated today with modern PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo systems, as they were decades ago.

Check out the Hyperkin Competitor trailer below!

At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference as to which modern controller is the best but truth be told, you can’t go wrong with either PlayStation’s DualSense, the Xbox controller and Nintendo’s Joy-Con.

Given the quality of official controllers, third-party accessory manufacturers will create its own controllers inspired by the official counterparts such as PowerA, SCUF and Nacon to name a few.

However, one other third-party accessory manufacturer, Hyperkin, has gained a lot of interest with its most recent announcement that seems to poke fun at Sony’s DualSense with its new Xbox controller.

Typically, Hyperkin creates controllers inspired by retro consoles of yesteryear such as the SNES, N64, GameCube and so forth. It’s even created controllers inspired by the original Xbox’s Duke controller.

Yet, as reported by Pure Xbox, HyperKin’s cheeky named “The Competitor” was announced during the CES 2025 convention. This wired controller is compatible with PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, and benefits from Hall Effect sticks which helps to eliminate dreaded stick drift.

The Competitor controller is blatantly inspired by the DualSense with not only its button and analogue stick placement, but also chassis design and colour scheme, and we love it. It’s also worth noting that it's available in all black.

At the time of writing, a price and release date hasn't been announced for The Competitor but we suspect that it will arrive at some point this year.
