Xbox gamers have recommended an underrated spooky game on Game Pass that can be compared to God of War and The Witcher.
Dubbed the “Netflix” of gaming, there is plenty of value to be had with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. That's despite yet another price hike that's risen as much as 50% in some regions.
That being said, with that price hike came additional perks, such as even more games for the top tier of Xbox Game Pass, more day-one releases and even a subscription to Fortnite Crew at no extra cost. So, I guess, the value of the price hike is in the eye of the beholder.
One particular game that was added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in November 2025 is Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, developed by the OG Life is Strange studio, Don’t Nod and published by Focus Entertainment.

On the aggregate website Metacritic, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden scored 78 from critics and 7.8 from users. On Steam, users have also given it a respectable “Very Positive” rating. So you know that if you give this game a go, there’s a good chance that it will be time well spent.
What’s more, our very own Kate Harrold also felt very impressed with the game compared with God of War and The Witcher. “Go play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden if you want to be entertained by the year’s most underrated narrative,” she recommended.

“I agree, I really loved it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was such a great story, and I thought about it for a few days after finishing it (always a mark of a great game in my opinion),” said elephant_keys.
“It has a really daunting atmosphere. And I loved it in the first playthrough, doing all the cases. But my god, the second playthrough was tedious. World design is for one run only,” said headXcrash.
“I have been enjoying this game too. I agree that the controls reminded me of God of War and The Witcher. I haven't gotten too far, but I will see this through to the end. I do like the voice work and the phrases after a fight, too,” agreed Shaftymorgan.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It's also currently included in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
