Spyro is about to make a big comeback on Xbox

Spyro The Dragon fans could be getting an exciting update soon.

It might be time to put up the missing posters: ‘Information wanted on the whereabouts of a small purple dragon, answers to the name Spyro’.

It was back in 2018 that this gaming icon last appeared on our screens in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and needless to say, we’re all desperate to know when he’ll return.

Toys For Bob has certainly been dropping hints, but we’ve hardly had anything concrete to go on.

Last year, devs were pictured attending an Unreal Engine 5 presentation with the blurred out screen having a noticeably purple hue.

Spyro did show-up in Crash Team Rumble but that’s not exactly enough to satisfy fans, especially given that the game feels somewhat doomed after support was ended just nine months after release. Its servers remain live for now.

March was perhaps the most eventful month for Toys For Bob in recent memory. The studio broke away from Activision/Microsoft, going independent although they will develop their next game with Microsoft.

This will, according to Xbox’s Matt Booty, be “similar to games Toys For Bob has made in the past”, very much keeping a brand new Spyro game a possible option.

Take a look at the aforementioned Crash Team Rumble in action below.

Whatever the game, it’s likely years away from launch but it does appear that something Spyro-related is set to land in the near future.

Twitter user klobrille recently spotted that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy had been added to the Microsoft Store with Xbox achievements listed.

This is significant because most games available on Game Pass are playable on both console and PC. It feels purposeful that Spyro Reignited Trilogy is suddenly available on Microsoft’s PC storefront.

This could be pure coincidence but it’s certainly worth pondering the possibility that it’s not.

“Neat if true,” one fan wrote. “But still hoping Spyro gets an eventual 60fps update for consoles.”

Diablo IV was the first Activision game to land on Game Pass following Microsoft’s acquisition. It does make sense that they’d perhaps opt for a family title next.

The latest Game Pass offerings were unveiled today. Spyro Reignited Trilogy wasn’t on the list but you will soon be able to enjoy Harold Halibut, Orcs Must Die! 3, EA Sports NHL 24, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Another crab’s Treasure, Manor Lords, and Have A Nice Death.

Here’s to hoping Spyro appears in the next batch.
