Halo Infinite sequel announced as fans share disappointment

Here we go again

Halo Infinite is finally getting a sequel, but it’s not the one we were expecting so fans will no doubt be disappointed.

As a Halo fan since I was just a wee lad, I’m going to be honest and say I’ve not been a fan of where the series has been heading over the last decade or so.

It’s had its moments, for sure, and I’ve managed to find enjoyment in all of 343 Industries/Halo Studios' games - yes, even Halo 5: Guardians - but nothing has lived up to Bungie’s trilogy so far and I don’t think anything ever will.

Halo: Infinite had potential though, and while it missed a few marks at launch, there was hope it’d blossom into something beautiful with story DLC, story DLC we’re not getting.

Instead, the story of Halo: Infinite will continue, but in a new novel rather than an expansion or new game.

Halo: Edge of Dawn takes place after the events of Halo: Infinite wrapped up, with the synopsis reading, “2560. After eliminating War Chief Escharum and sending the Banished leadership into chaos, the Master Chief continues the fight on Zeta Halo, accompanied by his new AI companion and their loyal pilot Fernando Esparza.”

“As Spartan-117 searches for scattered allied forces, a young combat medic—tortured and imprisoned for months by the Banished and the enigmatic Harbinger—may hold the key to unlocking deeper mysteries within this ancient ringworld," it continues.

Sounds like a great story; it's just a shame it’s being restricted to a novel rather than something we can play instead.

The Halo series will continue though, as a new game is currently in development at Halo Studios and will use Unreal Engine 5.

From the look of things, it’s going to go back to the franchise’s roots and be a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which should be interesting.

Hopefully, they don’t mess it up.
