Steam is a veritable feast of freebies. So much so, it can be hard to find things nestled away in the thousands of games that release over the year.
Tucked away in the darkened corners of Steam, you’ll find creators rebuilding or remastering old games that once had an audience, in order to freshen up the experience for new players.
ICYMI: The Switch 2 has been unveiled.
Rake Remastered is a new take on an old gem that is being slowly rebuilt from the ground up with remastered visuals.

It’s currently in early access, but it’s also completely free to add to your Steam library and keep forever.
Now, you’ll have to forgive me, but I know nothing of the original release. It’s one that passed me by in 2015.
According to the Steam page of Rake Remastered, this is “a spiritual successor to the haunting 2015 classic”.
You play as an investigator looking into cases of disappearing residents around a sleepy and spooky forest.

Armed with traps and tools, you’ll navigate the forest in search of clues and piece together the mystery that lingers between the trees.
“The forest holds its secrets close, and the line between hunter and hunted grows thinner with every passing moment. Will you survive the night, or will the Rake claim you as its next victim?”
I’m sure I’m mistaken, but the idea of a monster or creature called ‘Rake’ puts in mind being chased around a forest by a lawn tidying tool.
I’m sure it’s a terrifying beast of some sort, but you’ll only find out by playing.

With the game being in early access, it could change and evolve over time, and you can be a part of its development by leaving feedback for the developer.
Some of the reviews point out this is a lovely looking game with the bones of something great inside.
