Steam Gorgeous New Free Game Has 'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reviews

They fly now?

This free Steam title is getting some ridiculously positive reviews, and as a result it’s earned the type of review score that AAA publishers would be jealous of.

Free games rarely get the type of review scores that this Steam game is enjoying.

Actually, the majority of Steam games rarely get anything close to this kind of score, so what exactly is the deal with this title?

Maru Expedition: We can fly is a roguelike bullet-hell game from developer MoldGames and publisher Jungle Game Lab on Steam, and it currently has an "Overwhelming Positive" review score of 97% on the platform (with just over 120 reviews).

So what’s got everyone so complimentary about this game? What’s it doing that the rest of the gaming industry just can’t seem to figure out?

Well, it’s free… and it’s fun. Yeah, not much of a secret to this one’s success, honestly.

Turns out that if you just make something good and give it away for free, the majority of people will be pretty happy with it. Who knew?

If you want some more specific feedback however, here’s what reviewers are saying about the game on Steam.

“Incredibly fun game. Reminiscent of old mobile games and has the perfect vibe that I love from auto battling-type of games”, writes Steam reviewer Spell Castle.

“Would 100% recommend picking up and at least trying it.”

“Solid, Cute game! Auto attacking / aiming spruced up by your guys flinging themselves off the ship to do an ultimate”, commented Steam user Sadboosh.

“Overall great experience...and for the price of free how can you complain? It could use a little bit of flavor that I'd love to see. Changing boat colors would be nice to help make your gem stand out, damage numbers, being able to see character's skills before grabbing them would be nice, maybe a music select?”

Damn, turns out that just not charging people for a banger game tends to get people on your side. What a revelation.

Here’s hoping that the devs do charge for their next title though, because it seems like they deserve a little something for their efforts next time.
