I’ll be honest. I’d be very surprised if it was suddenly revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI is planning on launching this year.

I’m happy for Bethesda to prove me wrong, but I simply cannot see it.

I am more optimistic about the studio finally dropping an update on the highly-anticipated title though, perhaps another teaser offering a vague launch window.

You see, while The Elder Scrolls VI has been in the works for several years, it wasn’t exactly the focus of Bethesda’s efforts while development of Starfield was ongoing.

With Starfield having seemingly launched its one and only expansion though, Shattered Space, there’s nothing stopping Bethesda going full steam ahead on The Elder Scrolls VI - unless there’s a follow-up expansion we don’t know about, of course.

Even still, that likely places the game as being a couple of years away from release but in the meantime, you can revisit a franchise classic.

It’s a classic that’s older than me.

Head on over to Steam and you can enjoy 1996’s The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall for free.

ICYMI: DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to land this year, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks.

Daggerfall isn’t brought up nearly as much as its successors, Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind, but it’s no less deserving of your attention.

Yes, it’s a classic RPG but there’s something quite relaxing about venturing back to a simpler time.

Like everybody else, I’m all for gawking at a bit of ray tracing every now and then, but it’s refreshing to remind ourselves of the kind of gameplay that originally captured our imaginations.

What’s wonderful about Daggerfall is that not only is it totally free to play, but you can expect hours upon hours of entertainment.

In the ‘Very Positive’ reviews, one player wrote, “Unparalleled scale of questing. Fun as hell. Dense 90s fantasy vibes. A video game to hang out in forever. There is no need to be old or high on nostalgia to love Daggerfall. If you come into it with an open mind and a willingness to unlearn tendencies of modern games, Daggerfall is a glistening gem.”

Another said, “Fantastic game that's honestly not too archaic for a modern playthrough.”

If you’re an Elder Scrolls fan who’s yet to give it a whirl, let this be your sign to do so.
