While it’s hard to say no to yet another playthrough of Skyrim, if you are looking for something slightly different, you may want to check out Viking Frontiers.
Developed by BLUM Entertainment and set to be published by GameHunters and PlayWay, Viking Frontiers is exactly what it sounds like, a viking sim. Think Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but stripped back to its bare bones. There is a certain level of tranquillity in playing something so straightforward and simple. Anyone who’s ever played a so-called cosy game will back me up on that. In Viking Frontiers, you’ll assume the role of a leader of a newly founded viking settlement. It’s up to you to lead your cohort to glory, overcoming the elements and local threats.
Take a look at Viking Frontiers in action below.
“Survival of your people - that's the only thing that matters,” the synopsis teases. “Become the leader of a newly founded Viking settlement and lead it to safety and glory. Gather, build, craft, hunt, raid and follow your Gods to endure hardships of nature and fend off hostile Christian zealots.”

The game claims to boast a deep and extensive survival system, immersive simulation features, a management system allowing you to control your clan’s needs, laws, and activities, beautiful and realistic graphics, a day and night system, an array of quests, and a complex soundscape. All in all, it certainly sounds like an experience well worth checking out. A game that claims to blend the RPG, survival, simulation, and strategy genres is one that has my curiosity.
While Viking Frontiers doesn’t yet have a release date, you can currently check out a free demo over on Steam. It’s unknown if devs have plans to extend the game beyond Steam but for now, we’re content with checking out this free preview.
