Steam drops classic remaster you can download and keep for free

A retro classic is free to keep

Another freebie from Steam? Don’t mind if I do. This is a game that I’ll admit lingers in the void of my PC gaming history.

I had no clue it existed until today, and it seems to be a retro banger similar to the original Fallout titles.

For more Fallout vibes, check out the latest update to Fallout 76.

Burntime Remastered is an old school strategy throwback that is, much like Fallout, a post-apocalyptic adventure through a wasteland filled with potential battles.

Burntime originally released in 1993 and has been lovingly remastered here to be given away for free on Steam.

Improvements have been made on the original, including an addition of widescreen support, a doubled resolution for modern displays, and a brand-new soundtrack.

It’s worth noting that if you want to experience the game the way 1993 intended, you can toggle on the retro visuals and soundtrack to relive the glory days.

The game has been fully reprogrammed from scratch but leaves the original gameplay intact, so if you’ve experienced the classic game, you’ll feel right at home.

With a wealth of RPG mechanics and tactical options for exploration and combat, Burntime Remastered offers hours of adventure.

It seems the game has several fans according to Steam reviews, with one person making the game sound truly original, saying, “I paid a guy with a dead rat to follow me around. Not clear on objective or what the goal of the game is, but if you like older games the gameplay was smooth.”

While another player says, “30 years later, and I still die on the first enemy. Authentic experience. 10/10.”

If you want to get a good look at a retro diamond in the rough, this is free to download and keep on Steam at the moment.

It’s worth grabbing for a taste of how gaming was done over 30 years ago.
