Steam drops 24 free downloads you've until September 23 to grab

So many games, so little time

If you didn’t already know, Steam’s Planes, Trains, And Automobiles Fest is currently underway.

Okay, yes, that’s not an event that’s going to appeal to everyone but if you do enjoy sampling a transport-related game from time to time, you’re in luck.

Naturally, the event means a ton of games are currently running discounts but what’s perhaps more exciting is that so too have a bunch of free demos dropped.

Planes, Trains, And Automobiles Fest runs until 23 September, ending at 10am PT, so make sure that you check out all offers and demos before that point.

There’s an endless stream of demos for you to choose from, but allow me to guide you through the top 24.

Red Phantom Games’ Gearshifters is the event’s most downloaded demo, at the time of writing.

This is an arcade shoot em’ up racer - not too dissimilar from Twisted Metal in its concept.

You’ll essentially go to war against ‘extreme-machine bosses,’ boosting your chances with mods, as well as vehicle defences and weaponry.

Successfully take out your opponents and transport goods in order to succeed.

Hellride Games’ Capital Command occupies second place.

In this space sim, you’ll explore a procedurally-generated galaxy, competing in space battles as you journey to the far corners of this vast sandbox world.

Speaking of space, Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion launches very soon.

If naval combat is more your thing, put the space games aside and make room for Eidos Studio Hungary’s Battlestations Pacific - the third most popular demo.

“Experience one war through two epic sagas where you will be a part of history or change it. Feel the power of the historically authentic and decisive battles of the Pacific War,” the synopsis teases.

This one’s a classic, originally releasing in 2009, that’s worth sampling if you haven’t already.

In fourth place, we have Games Incubator and GameFormatic’s Car Detailing Simulator which is exactly what it says on the tin.

There’s little else I can add here except that it’s a very satisfying endeavour.

In fifth place, we have the similar Bike Mechanic Simulator.

This one’s from Manager Games and will have you, you guessed it, fixing up bikes.

Nothing caught your eye? All of the following titles are also now available to sample for free:

  • Jeepney Simulator
  • Calm Cove
  • Road Engineer
  • Frontiers Reach
  • Battle Train
  • Zompizza
  • AirBorne Sea
  • Offroad: Dead Planet
  • Blue Sky Aces
  • Warplanes: Air Corp
  • Line of Fire - Pirate Waltz
  • Kamikaze Lassplanes
  • Grub Truck
  • Decimate driver
  • Take on Helicopters
  • Zombie Driver HD
  • Reclaim The Sea
  • Go For Launch: Mercury
  • The Curse of Grimsey Island

As I said, the event finishes on 23 September so don’t miss out.
