If you're a fan of the GTA series and the criminally underrated Sleeping Dogs, then you might want to keep track of this upcoming game.

It should go without saying (but I’m saying it anyway) that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series is easily one of the biggest video game properties in the industry. In fact, judging by GTA V's sales, it’s one of the biggest properties in the entertainment industry.

The Grand Theft Auto series began its ascent to super-popularity with the launch of GTA III in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. GTA III set the bar of what’s expected from an open-world action game, and its influence is still going strong today.

The next entry in the Rockstar Games series is GTA VI, which is currently scheduled to be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. That’s assuming it suffers no further delay.

As for Sleeping Dogs, originally released in 2012, developed by the now-defunct United Front Games and published by Square Enix, this game can be described as GTA but set in a Chinese triad world.

Set in Hong Kong, in Sleeping Dogs, you play as an undercover cop Wei Shen, who is tasked with infiltrating a triad organisation, the Sun On Yee. However, once he gets on the inside, he soon realises that not everything is black and white, and tough choices must be made, for better or worse.

Sleeping Dogs is such a fantastic game. It still looks great, has over-the-top, high-octane action, and best of all, it’s backwards compatible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re looking for a game to pass the time until GTA VI, Sleeping Dogs is worth checking out.

GTA Meets Sleeping Dogs and Sifu

Another game that might be worth checking out is the upcoming indie game Acts of Blood, developed and published by Eksil Team. It kind of looks like a cross between GTA, Sleeping Dogs, and Sifu.

“In the bustling city of Bandapa, Hendra's life is torn apart when his family is slain by his father's business rival,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

“Left alone and seeking justice, the college law student finds no help from the corrupt legal system that protects the killers. Discovering a powerful group behind the attack, Hendra decides to take revenge himself, determined to make them pay for their actions.”

At the time of writing, Acts of Blood does not have a release date beyond saying that it intends to launch at some point towards the end of this year. But it’s worth keeping in mind that delays are always likely.

Acts of Blood does at least have a playable demo that you can download right now via Steam. It might also be worth adding it to your wishlist to be notified of its launch.
