Buckle up, Resi fans - the next new entry in the series is allegedly already in development, and it could be upon us in 2025.
Since the release of Resident Evil 4 (as in, the remake) earlier this year, it’s not been clear exactly what’s next for the franchise. However, the rumour mill has already begun turning, and last month, one insider claimed that none other than Chris Redfield will be returning as the main protagonist in Resident Evil 9, which is sure to put the fear of God in boulders everywhere.
Take a look at our review of Resident Evil 4 (2023) below.
Furthermore, it was claimed that other classic characters like Leon, Jill and Claire are going to be included alongside Chris, so if the rumours are true, we could have an all-star Resident Evil cast on our hands. However, it’s also alleged that there’ll be more focus on action than horror, which might prove to be divisive.

Now though, as highlighted on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, prominent industry insider Dusk Golem has claimed that Resident Evil 9 will likely be revealed next year ahead of its release in 2025. Speaking on Discord with another user who asked if “we should expect Resident Evil 9 next year”, Dusk Golem responded: “2025, I’ll say that much, though probably will be announced next year.”
The insider also teased that there’s “a big Capcom game being announced at the end of the year that’s likely releasing in fall 2024”, but they didn’t give any indication as to what this might be. On Reddit though, gamers have their own theories.
“My guess is the next Monster Hunter title[,] whatever the World team have been cooking up,” SpaceGooV speculated. “Dino Crisis remake,” guessed MisterMarss. “It's a long shot but Dead Rising remake would be pretty hype,” added Benchmarkedx.
