Thank goodness for RDR II mods. In a time where proper sustenance from Rockstar Games is increasingly hard to come by, creative fans are coming to our aid, delivering banger after banger. These modders are keeping the flames of RDR alive, giving its players a chance to explore new locations, uncover monsters, and seek out new fortunes.
The ‘Neuvo Paraiso-Mexico Mod WIP’, while being a bit of a mouthful to say, adds a giant new area to the RDR II map. However, while a welcomed expansion for the game, the location is somewhere players of the original game have visited before, only this time around it’s been given a much-needed facelift.
Perfect this mod isn’t, however. Despite it offering additional exploration, it is, as its NexusMods page tells you multiple times, “heavily unfinished”. As the user running the page explains, “If something DOESN'T look right or if something seems missing, that's exactly the case. The only location I'd say is fully 100% complete is Casa Madrugada. I'd recommend visiting that location first so you have an idea of what the remaining locations should aim to be like one day.”

The reason I keep saying user instead of modder is because the person in charge of this RDR mod isn’t the one who created it; as shown on the mod page, this was a mod originally from the Mexico Team. Seemingly disenchanted or tired of maintaining it, that same team said that people were free to “reupload this mod”, before adding that “they do not care”.
In addition to those words of indifference are all the system requirements to be aware of before you install and run the game. All of those details can be found here, alongside a disclaimer from the modder that reads “Please for the love of god don't complain about anything not working if you're using some cracked version.” We can almost feel their frustration, it’s as if they’ve encountered entitled fanboys and girls before…
Despite its flaws, which the mod is upfront about, ‘Neuvo Paraiso-Mexico Mod WIP’ looks damn fine. I dare say you could be fooled into thinking it was an official expansion at first glance, the graphics are definitely on par with the “untouchable masterpiece” that is the base game.
There are so many different RDR II mods out there that we genuinely struggle to keep track of them all. But, as far as I’m concerned, that’s a blessing – I’d rather be able to keep this game alive for years to come thanks to more and more mods being discovered, then bid it a bitter-sweet final farewell.
