Sony quietly announces new PS5 hardware, and I need it

Sony quietly announces new PS5 hardware, and I need it

New and shiny

A new DualSense controller has been announced by Sony featuring a gorgeous design based on the hit game Helldivers II.

The controller will sell for $84.99 or £74.99 and will include all the standard features for the DualSense, this seems to be a simple cosmetic change for the PlayStation 5 controller.

PlayStation is currently celebrating its 30th year making consoles and games.

I say simple cosmetic change, but really, this is a tasty looking revamp from the standard white colourway.

With a black background colour, the accents appear in yellow and grey.

Designed with decals pulled directly from Helldivers II, the appearance is that of some tech to be found in the game.

The little details around the face buttons and d-pad heighten the aesthetic, making it look like the controls of a mech or fighter plane.

Then, there’s the little skull in the middle of the touchpad, which is trimmed with more yellow and grey.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of the game receiving its first major expansion, 'Omen of Tyranny', which introduces a new faction and some cityscapes to fight through.

Omen of Tyranny’s new enemy, The Voteless, are zombies who want nothing more than to tear your limbs off.

It’s great to see the game receiving updates and new expansions as fans began to cool on Helldivers II after it stormed out of the gate to rave reception.

Now, you’ll be able to drop in and tool up with a DualSense to match, and keep the flag flying for Super Earth.

Preorders for the controller are open now, and it’s scheduled to land on 6 February 2025, though the exact launch date will vary by country according to Sony.

I’ve not even played much of Helldivers II and I want this for my PS5, it’s such a swish design and taps into that archaic sci-fi future.
