Red Dead Redemption 2 unofficial 60fps patch leaves fans stunned

Yesterday, Rockstar Games finally granted the Red Dead Redemption fandom a long-awaited wish.

Yes, the original game is finally set to land on PC along with its brilliant Undead Nightmare DLC - and you only have to wait until 29 October.

The port will boast a number of unique features including native 4K resolution at up to 144hz, Ultrawide and Super Ultrawide monitor support, HDR10 support, and full keyboard and mouse functionality.

That’s only scratching the surface.

A PC port of Red Dead Redemption is far from being the only thing on fans’ wish lists though.

It goes without saying that Red Dead Redemption 3 is pretty in-demand, so too though is a 60fps patch for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Take a look at the trailer for the new Red Dead Redemption PC port below.

It’s hard to believe that Red Dead Redemption 2 has never received a next-gen patch, unlocking that 60fps option.

The OG Red Dead can be played at 60fps on console thanks to its recent remaster, but the acclaimed sequel remains locked at 30fps.

It’s one of very few high profile PlayStation 4 era launches for which that is still the case.

While an official patch remains something we’re all hoping to eventually see released, Digital Foundry has, in the meantime, demonstrated what 60fps might look like by hacking a PS5 console.

Unfortunately, these mods will not work on what Digital Foundry refers to as “unexploited, retail consoles” but their demonstration is enough to show us what many games, Red Dead Redemption 2 included, are capable of if given that opportunity to run at 60fps.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 segment of the video interestingly shows the bigger ‘most replayed’ viewership spike, which I can’t say I’m too surprised at.

Digital Foundry proves that Red Dead Redemption 2 can run at 60fps on PS5 seamlessly, leaving many fans wondering what the hold-up is at Rockstar.

“Still so weird that there is not a RDR2 60fps patch by Rockstar,” wrote one disgruntled viewer.

“Out of all the games I’ve played on my PS5, RDR2 and Bloodborne are the two that absolutely need and deserve a 60fps patch,” added another.

With RDR’s PC port ready to launch, perhaps now this frees up some time for devs to prepare that long-awaited new-gen patch for its sequel.
