Sony has dropped an offer for users to lease a PS5 console for a reduced price.
Gaming can be pretty expensive nowadays, with the price of consoles, hardware, and even games themselves slowly creeping up in price over the years.
Even the price of the PS5, which launched in 2020 at £359.99 for the digital version, hasn’t strayed away from the price hikes, seeing a £70 increase last year up to £429.99.
If you’re a gamer on a tight budget, PlayStation has offered a solution for those who can afford smaller, monthly contributions rather than a lump sum.
The offer is being done through Raylo, a leasing firm in the UK which collaborated with PlayStation last year to start leasing out PS5 consoles to players who couldn’t afford the full price of the console upfront.

Players have a choice to lease standard, digital and Pro PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal handhelds, and PS VR2 headsets, done on a rolling monthly contract.
They can also lease the console on a 12-month, 24-month, or 36-month contract, with the option to upgrade and continue paying after the contract ends. You’re essentially renting the console for the duration of the lease, and have to return it should you end the contract.
However, you still have to buy everything else needed to enjoy the console, like games, additional controllers, and a PlayStation Plus subscription if you want to play online.

Nevertheless, some have touted the scheme as a way for PC gamers to play GTA VI early considering the game isn’t expected to launch there until at least late 2027.
Nowadays, Rockstar Games tends to launch PC versions of its games around a year or two after launch, so waiting for the PC port of GTA VI to come out may take an extra amount of patience if you don’t have access to a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
Right now, PlayStation is offering a 36-month lease on a PS5 Digital console for £9.95, meaning for less than £10 a month you can rent a PS5 Digital and keep it for three years, provided you’re able to continue payments during that term.
We’d like to stress that while these schemes can be tempting for those on lower incomes, it’s advisory to really consider the implications of locking yourself into a three-year lease on a video games console.
You may end up paying more over three years for the console than it would cost to just buy it outright, and at the end of the lease you don’t even own the hardware either.
