The PS1 remaster we've been dreaming of is officially hitting modern consoles

The PS1 remaster we've been dreaming of is officially hitting modern consoles

We hoped this day would come

The original PlayStation was a treasure trove of brilliant platformers in both 2D and 3D. The console managed to establish some great characters that have long held a place in our hearts.

Over recent years many of these games have made a comeback in rereleases and remasters and it appears another is on the horizon.

Speaking of platforming mascots, Sonic is back in cinemas soon to face off against Shadow

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, from the PlayStation era, is next up for the remaster treatment. This adorable 3D platformer was known for its charm and it had bags of heart.

Many of our, ahem, older readers will have played Croc first time around and had a blast with it. It was an adventure where players controlled Croc through a bold and colourful world to rescue the Gobbos.

It’s a classic tale of hero versus evil villain and it features all the hallmarks that went on to become the foundations of a legendary genre.

Argonaut Games has not only announced the game, but they’ve also released a teaser trailer to get the hype train rolling.

As is becoming a trend with remasters, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos will also feature a wealth of behind-the-scenes details, including concept art, animation tests, interviews with the team, and even lost assets.

Argonaut Games co-CEO, Mike Arkin, commented on the release saying, “We wanted to honor the original game’s legacy while introducing it to a new audience. The HD remaster allows us to do just that. It’s been a labor of love for our team.”

The remaster will be available for console and PC and while there isn’t a firm release date in place, it’s likely to be available next year.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos isn’t just a return to the original game, but it’s also a comeback for Argonaut Games which has been reformed after laying dormant for many years.
