A popular PlayStation Plus fighting RPG is being downscaled and will remove several key modes that will especially impact trophy hunters.

In the modern era of gaming, online connectivity is more popular today than it ever was. Multiplayer-only games are very much the norm and are achieving great success, not only with the already established Fortnite, but also with new titles such as ARC Raiders.

With online gaming and live service implementation becoming increasingly popular, there is at least one major negative, and that’s the longevity of games, or more accurately, how long a developer/publisher is willing to keep games alive and running.

A game could begin its life with huge concurrent player numbers, as we’re currently seeing with the aforementioned ARC Raiders. But if those numbers dip for a prolonged period of time, a developer/publisher may decide to kill that game. If said game is online-only, it will most likely never be accessible again.

One other game that looks like it could have a bleak future is the PlayStation Plus RPG, Granblue Fantasy: Versus.

Stop Killing Games!

It’s why in recent months, we’ve seen the community movement ‘Stop Killing Games’, a campaign to prevent publishers from erasing games they deem to have no justification to exist, whether it's a drop in player numbers or as a tactic to encourage players to jump over to its sequel.

At the time of writing, the ‘Stop Killing Games’ petition has gained well over one million signatures (and counting). A prime example of a game that can be considered part of that movement is 2019’s Anthem from BioWare, a game that recently shut down for good.

“Server downscaling and restrictions to online features in Granblue Fantasy: Versus from 20 April 2026. A few trophies are also affected."

"The game was a PS Plus Essential monthly game in September 2022,” alerted Redditor kabirsingh84.

In a follow-up comment, kabirsingh84 explained that arguably the biggest feature that Granblue Fantasy: Versus will be losing is ranked matches and will be replaced by casual matches, resulting in no rankings.

The removal of ranked matches will have the consequence of some trophies being unobtainable, which will no doubt be a huge blow for PlayStation trophy hunters.

So, if you’re desperate to claim all the trophies in Granblue Fantasy: Versus, you will need to earn them before its downscaling comes into effect this April.

“Thanks for the heads up. I guess the two affected trophies look easy enough to get, particularly if you're boosting,” replied TheRealJoeyRavn.

“Gonna boost the online ones this week if you want a hand,” added Smurfmyturf.

Great to see the community coming together at aleast!

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is available on PlayStation 4 and backwards compatible on PlayStation 5.
