PlayStation Plus Drops Surprise Free Game You Can Claim Now

Yooo, the Dead Cells devs made this?!

The surprise release of a new game from the minds behind Dead Cells has been paired with an even bigger surprise: it’s a day one drop on PlayStation Plus.

Yesterday, a rather unexpected announcement dropped at Gamescom; there’s a new Prince of Persia game, and it’s available… now.

Well, “new” is only half right, because we’ve known about the title for quite some time. The “new” bit refers to the fact that, until now, it was only available in early access.

The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D roguelike featuring Prince (not the fella that sang Purple Rain) and published by Ubisoft, dropped in early access on Steam in June 2024.

Considering that this is an early access game we’re talking about, reviews for The Rogue Prince of Persia were extremely positive (and they’ve only gotten more positive, since the full release dropped yesterday).

Said positive reception shouldn’t be too surprising though, as the game was developed by Evil Empire Studio, an offshoot of Dead Cells’ original developer Motion Twin.

As Motion Twin geared up to begin development on their upcoming title Windblown, Evil Empire Studio was founded so that they could focus on Dead Cells’ DLC.

If you’ve not played Dead Cells, or alternatively haven’t played any of its numerous DLC expansions, lemme tell you… that game absolutely slaps, and the DLC is arguably better than the content in the main game.

No need to solely rely on my recommendation though, as The Rogue Prince of Persia is a day one drop on PlayStation Plus Extra, so you won’t have to spend a penny to try it out for yourself (unless you have to renew your subscription).

Oh, and it’s also available through Xbox Game Pass. Man, they really are just giving this one away, huh?

If you are a fan of the game, I do highly recommend going back and trying out Dead Cells after, because the gameplay looks very similar to what’s on offer in The Rogue Prince of Persia. Woo! Two cakes!
