PlayStation finally brings back Resistance with surprise release

PlayStation finally brings back Resistance with surprise release

Insomniac Games' hit FPS series is back this November

Rejoice, PlayStation 3 fans; Sony has finally remembered that the Resistance franchise exists.

The series will be returning to modern PlayStation systems in a big way this month, but be warned ahead of time that their return comes with a catch.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog yesterday, a mix of modern and classic games will be hitting PlayStation Plus this month.

These titles include Grand Theft Auto V, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Like a Dragon: Ishin, MotoGP 24, Digimon Survive, Overcooked! All You Can Eat, Stick Fight: The Game, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Killer Frequency, Hungry Shark World, Chivalry II, Synapse, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2.

Alongside of all of these is the reason you clicked on this article in the first place; Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

However, fans of PS3 classics might already be able to see why this isn’t necessarily the good news it’s initially cut out to be, as both of these PlayStation Premium tier games won’t (technically) actually be available for download.

That’s because you’ll have to stream both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 if you want to play them, because they’re not ports or re-releases.

It’s a little more complex than this, but the majority of PlayStation 3 games you can play through the PlayStation Plus service aren’t actually emulated or ported. You are essentially streaming a PlayStation 3 version of these games directly to your PS4 and PS5 hardware.

Those unfamiliar with the service but are excited to jump back into the Resistance series should be warned that you’ll need a pretty good download speed to even bother attempting this - and even then, you’ll still likely run into a lot of input delay.

If you haven’t been dissuaded however, then both titles will be available to play on the 19th of November.
