PlayStation’s CEO Hideaki Nishino has shared an update on the company’s future, with good news for the PlayStation 6 and consoles beyond.
At the time of writing it’s a little early to be putting the PlayStation 6 on our wishlist, as the PlayStation 5 still has plenty of games left to give, especially with small upgrades like the PlayStation 5 Pro.

That said console companies are almost always thinking about the next-generation, and it’s clear both PlayStation and Xbox are both thinking about the future.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is happily walking along with the Nintendo Switch 2, which will apparently be a significant upgrade over its predecessor but still nowhere near the power of current-gen PlayStation/Xbox consoles, not saying that’s a bad thing either.
Back to PlayStation though, the CEO Hideaki Nishino recently spoke with `Famitsu to talk about the future of the company, or more specifically its hardware.
Nishino said future consoles will “definitely be the core of our business for a while ... we don't think that hardware will disappear anytime soon.”
When you think about it, it’s pretty obvious that hardware will always be at the forefront of the company’s business, but you do have to ask how much more advanced can these consoles get?

While Xbox will likely be doing the same there’s still rumours that the company is prioritising a third-party approach to business, but hardware will still be a factor, including a new handheld.
For the time being though PlayStation is definitely ahead as far as home consoles are concerned, and with the PlayStation 6 in the works it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change over the next few years.
What matters most though is what games will be available for it, as a £500+ box of wires is pretty useless without some banging first-party games to play on it.
